The Stepparent Adoption Law Center does one thing, Stepparent Adoptions. During our time as lawyers, we always saw the unmatched joy of parents in adoptions. We also saw concern and worry for the process. We couldn’t let an unknown process stop REAL parents from taking One Last Step to making it official. Our single goal is to show you the stepparent adoption process so you can take that One Last Step.
THE PROCESS
STEP ONE
First, we check to make sure you are eligible to adopt. We take your name, date of birth, prior addresses, other similar background info, and perform a background check. Next, we make sure the child is eligible for adoption. That means we get background info for the child, including where the child lives, the parent whose rights will be terminated, and learning if any other person has a right to custody of the child… That kind of “court” looking stuff.
STEP TWO
The Stepparent Adoption Law Center goes to court! Well, we file the paperwork to start the adoption. After we’ve gathered all the info we need, and determined we can proceed with the adoption, we file the appropriate paperwork to start the adoption process.
STEP THREE
You get to go to court and see us in action. Really, all we do is show the judge you’re the parent. If termination of parental rights is opposed, we show the court why you should be allowed to adopt. If there is no fight from an uninvolved parent, we go to court for Adoption Day! You and your child stand in front of the Judge, and the Judge signs the order completing the One Last Step… You’re officially official!
STEP FOUR
We send the paperwork to the State of Oklahoma to re-issue a new birth certificate showing you as the parent!

HOW WE GOT HERE
We’ve done divorces, custody cases, guardianships, name changes, and everything else involving kids. Here’s a simple fact: The best thing that happens in any courthouse is an adoption. People have to CHOOSE to adopt. That’s a big choice with lots of responsibility. Still, there is no more satisfying and fulfilling thing in court than when a person realizes that choice. That’s why we do it. We want to help you become the parent everyone knows you already are. We love helping you take that One Last Step from Stepparent to Mom or Dad.

We’ve handled adoptions all over Oklahoma and have represented multiple adoption agencies. We know adoptions by heart. In fact, we sometimes have to tell the judge he or she is wrong... We know the law and will take care of you in court.

This is ALL we do. We’re not working on another client's workers’ comp case instead of your adoption. We pour all of our dedication and attention into getting the job done for our clients, but our sole practice is adoptions... Period.
